Inserting Scleral Lenses
Place a mirror on a flat surface facing upwards.
Wash hands thoroughly with non-moisturizing soap and dry completely with a lint-free cloth.
Rinse scleral lens with saline solution.
Rub away any remaining cleaning solution from the sides of the lens.
Center the lens on top of the application device.
Fill the lens with saline solution, making sure to overfill the bowl so the liquid makes a dome-shaped top.
Secure the eyelids open, allowing room to insert the lens. Make sure your fingers and eyelids are dry to promote a firm grip while holding.
You will have more room to insert the lens if you can see white all around the colored part of your iris.
Hold your lids at the base of the lashes instead of the skin of the eyelid to achieve a better grip.
Tuck chin and lean forward from hip, bringing your face parallel to the mirror.
Raise the application device while looking into the center of the lens. Apply lens to the eye until some fluid overflows from the bowl and you feel light pressure as the lens suctions to the eye.
Release eye lids around the lens.
Check for air bubbles! If you see any air bubbles, remove the lens and reapply.
Wash the application device with mild soap and water. Rinse and store dry.
